Back to the Basics

Exercise videos, diet pills, detoxification, green smoothies, and gym membership’s sounds like a shopping list for a wellness center. Well actually it’s the cycle that most people encounter when striving to lose weight. People are in a constant scavenger hunt looking for what will work for them.

I’m guilty of it. In the past, I tried a little bit of everything and grew frustrated with the process. Losing weight is hard and keeping it off is even harder; however, if you ever find yourself in a rut or if you don’t know where to start, I’m here to give you some guidance on getting back to the basics.

At the beginning of 2014, I was 5lbs. away from my goal weight when I found out I was pregnant with our third child. Imagine my hysteria.

Perfect timing, right?

I gave birth to a healthy baby girl on December 14, 2014 and began my new journey back to me. If you have children or know someone who has had children, you should understand that losing weight after having a baby is not so easy. I spent majority of 2015 adjusting to a new human being running my life (Giggling). Although my mind wanted to exercise, my body was sleep deprived and tired. By the end of 2015, God reminded me that I needed to get back to the basics.

What are the basics? I’m glad you asked.

Here at Fit For A Purpose, LLC, we believe that losing weight involves four areas: spiritual, mental, emotional and physical.

BASICS:

  1. Spiritually– get back to consistent prayer and devotional time
  2. Mentally– get back to clearing the mind of negativity and fill it with positive things
  3. Emotionally– get back to managing stress-levels
  4. Physically– get back to drinking water, eating properly, and exercise

Whenever you go through life altering experiences, such as having a baby, losing a job, losing a loved one, relocating, etc., you will experience a shift in your routine. Getting back to the basics will help you to focus on things you can manage. Focus on tackling one area at a time and after you get in a groove with one, move on to the next. Don’t focus all of your attention on the numbers on the scale. There is a lot more to losing weight and keeping it off.

For now, GET BACK TO THE BASICS.
